Rukita Empowers Tenants to Take Action on Water Conservation

Saving Water, One Flush at a Time: Rukita Invites Residents to Join the Movement.
Imagine turning on a tap and no water comes out. This threat is closer than we think: Indonesians consume more than 160 liters of water per person daily, well above the recommended limit. In response, modern housing providers must go beyond comfort and deliver real solutions for sustainability.
As a pioneer in asset management and modern coliving in Indonesia, Rukita is taking action through a water conservation program at Rukita Askara Tanah Abang in Central Jakarta. This initiative is part of the company’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) commitment, inviting residents to take part in protecting the environment.
Simple Steps, Big Impact

Ananda Putra, Rukita’s Sustainability (ESG) Manager, explained that this program applies a zero-investment approach, focusing on simple, cost-free efforts such as:
- Toilet Water Efficiency: Adjusting toilet floats to reduce water used per flush.
- Pump Pressure Regulation: Reducing pump pressure to cut daily water consumption.
One early method was placing a 600 ml bottle in toilet tanks, saving three liters of water per room per day. With 50 rooms, this equaled 4,500 liters of water saved monthly. The team later replaced bottles with technical float adjustments to maintain efficiency without extra materials.
Rukita has also adopted modern technologies such as smart flow meters and Reverse Osmosis (RO) dispensers to support water efficiency.
Clear Results Backed by Data

In August 2025, average daily water consumption per resident at Rukita Askara dropped to 147 liters—below Indonesia’s national average of 161 liters and even the global average of 150 liters.
More importantly, residents can directly see their role in conservation. By simply adjusting a toilet float or pump pressure, they contribute to meaningful environmental impact.
“This shows that water conservation can be simple and affordable without sacrificing comfort. Anyone can apply these methods at home.” – Ananda Putra, Rukita Sustainability (ESG) Manager
Sustainability as Rukita’s DNA
For Rukita, sustainability is not a buzzword but a daily practice. The company believes a healthy business balances profit with social and environmental responsibility, with initiatives designed to benefit both residents and the wider community.
“Housing isn’t just about providing shelter—it’s about preserving the earth for future generations. The initiative at Rukita Askara Tanah Abang proves that comfort and environmental awareness can go hand-in-hand.” – Sabrina Soewatdy, CEO & Founder of Rukita
Comfortable Living, Meaningful Contribution
Residents have embraced the program, finding that it enriches their daily routines. Comfort remains intact while awareness grows—and they feel proud to be part of a larger movement.
“At first I thought water-saving would reduce comfort. But everything works as usual—the toilet and water flow are normal. It makes me proud to contribute to the environment through such a simple change,” said Varrel Vendira, a resident of Rukita Askara Tanah Abang.
Rukita emphasizes that sustainability works best when done together. The initiative at Rukita Askara Tanah Abang is just the beginning, with plans to expand across more coliving properties.
Some simple steps everyone can try at home include:
- Reducing toilet tank volume by adjusting the float or placing a 600 ml bottle inside.
- Turning off taps while brushing teeth or washing dishes.
- Reusing water from washing rice or vegetables to water plants.
- Fixing leaky taps and pipes promptly.
- Turning off taps while soaping or shampooing.
These small, collective actions create a lasting impact on future water availability. For Rukita, coliving means more than comfortable housing—it’s about building a community that grows responsibly with the planet.
